In this class, children use their imaginations to discover and connect with their creative selves. Children will play theater games, explore the world of non-verbal communication, and engage in activities that will help them feel different rhythms. At the end of each class, students will have time with the "change-me" box: a chest full of costume pieces and props for free exploration.
In this supportive and relaxed environment, children learn basic theater skills through theater games, story-telling, improvisation and role-playing. Students develop their imaginations, intuition, and problem-solving skills while exploring and connecting with their creative selves.
This class enables students to explore characters and learn how to make their own connections to them. They will learn how to analyze a character, and answer the basic questions that actors must ask themselves when they approach a piece of work: Who? Where? Why? What? How? Each student will be assigned a monologue and short scene to develop and present at the end of the session.
Students will practice the art of improvisation and work on short monologues as they learn to focus on the basic questions: who, what, where, when and why. Warm-ups, vocal exercises and theater games will be part of every class meeting.
Students will learn a wide variety of musical styles and focus on “acting through the song” in this fun-filled class. They will also have the opportunity to work on short musical theatre scenes (acting, singing and movement) to be performed at an informal presentation on the last class. Taught by Betsy True-Bloomfield.
Private Coaching is available for students interested in individual sessions to prepare for auditions, productions, etc.
